About our School
Westways is a friendly, supportive and caring school.
Our aims are developed with input from children and teachers across the school with an emphasis on securing commitment to our aims from children, teachers and parents alike.
Our vision is to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment where children, regardless of race, gender, disability and sexuality will recognise and achieve their fullest potential so that they can make their best contribution to an ever changing society.
We would like our school to be a happy, hardworking and orderly place. We expect all pupils to:
- Respect themselves, others and the environment
- Be flexible and adaptable for living in a multicultural society in the 21st century
- Achieve high standards in all areas of the curriculum
- Become life-long learners
- Be able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Be good communicators
- Feel happy, safe and secure within the school environment
Our School Buildings
The school is housed in three separate Victorian buildings and provides a spacious learning environment. This gives us the advantage of providing children with the opportunity to benefit from being at the same school throughout their primary education, whilst enjoying a friendly small school atmosphere in their own building.
We are also able to support transition throughout the year from Foundation to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 by providing plenty of occasions for the children to work in all three buildings. This is done through assemblies, PE lessons or making use of ICT facilities, the music room or art room.
Each of the buildings is designated to a stage in learning. We have a fully integrated Foundation Stage Unit for 3 and 4 year olds in Warwick Building, 3 classes in each year group at Key Stage 1 for 5 to 7 year olds in Mona Building and 3 classes in each year group throughout Key Stage 2 for 8 to 11 year olds in Western Building.
