A BIG THANK YOU from Friends of Westways – July 2017

With your help this year, we have raised over £7,800, over £1,500 more than last year! So thank you to all of you, parents, carers, children and Westways staff, who have been a part of that.

We raised this fantastic amount in a number of ways:

  • We had sunshine for the Westways Village Fete raising £2,530.
  • We danced our way to £2,510 at the school discos.
  • We exchanged Christmas greetings with cards and mugs designed by the children raising £1,073
  • We refreshed those at cross country events raising £635 as well as raising money selling autumn and winter produce and taking part in the Easter hat competition.

A heart felt thank you to all those who helped at the fair, whether it was setting up, running stalls, tidying up, donating items or coming along and enjoying the fun.  Also a sincere thank you to local businesses who gave their support:

  • The Closed Shop and the Blue Bee Brewery for supplying beer and helping to run the bar.
  • Beeches for supplying meat for the BBQ.
  • Just Natural for the coconuts.
  • And thank you to the Pecsaetan Morris Team.

All the money raised by FoW goes towards enhancing the learning environment for all our children, providing an important contribution to the great experience each child deserves at Westways.

This year we have given £4,700 in total for every class and for sports teams to go on trips and educational visits, £110 to each class for enhancements including wet play games, reading corner books and tablets for year group blogging.

Please be a part of our plans for next year ………..

We have a dedicated committee who work hard at running events.  We know that we cannot do it without your help.  We have been delighted to have a small team of Y2 mums who have taken on the task of running the KS1 discos and have done a fantastic job.  If you and your friends have a great idea for an event, let us know!

News from the AGM

News from the AGM: We have got the year off to a good start with our first meeting and annual AGM.  We were really pleased to be joined by some new faces and really hope that more of you will want to help out over the following year.  We were keen to agree to funding requests for cameras for each of the  Y1 and Y2 classes as well as £200 for each class in the school towards the costs of school trips.

Our plans for this term so far are:

  • FoW meeting on 9th November 2016
  • Autumn cake and produce sale on 21st October after school.  Following on from our very successful cake sale in the summer, for this sale we would love no only donations of yummy cakes and bakes but any of your home made produce – chutneys and pickles, jams, bread, eggs.  More details to follow.
  • KS2 disco on 18th November.  * PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE*
  • Organising the order of Christmas cards and other goodies designed by the children.
  • Supporting the carols in the wildlife garden on the last day of term

We would be grateful for anyone able to help out with these events.

We would love it if you are able to join us at one of our meetings to help with organising.  Meeting dates are:

  • 30th September  – we’ll be at the Macmillian coffee morning if you’d like to come and have a chat and find out more about what we do
  • 13th October 7.30pm (venue to be confirmed) to plan the KS2 disco

Please don’t be put off if you’re not able to get to meetings.
